Velo Binding
Velobind is in actual fact a type of book binding. There are many places where this can be done if you are looking for it. If you are thinking about velobind then there are a number of things that should be looked at.
There are a few types of velobind with the most common being a holed strip and a tined strip that are connected. It is possible to have hard cover books made using this binding system. There was a company in America who used this hard cover binding to create a quick soft cover to hard cover offer. This unfortunately was rather short lived.
In addition to the different types of binding there are different styles as well. The most common style is to have 11 evenly spaces pins placed in the spine of the book. This style will actually weld the pages of the book together. Some other styles include the 4 pin or 6 pin reclosable strips. The 4 pin style can be used on an 11 hole pattern or a 4 hole pattern.
So where can you get this kind of binding done? Print ad copy stores will be able to do some style of velobinding for you. It is also possible to do it yourself. General Binding Corporation has placed a number of machines on the market for the average person to be able to do this binding. Of course businesses are the most common owners of these machines.
Velobind machines can be placed into 2 categories. Hot knife and cold knife are the two categories. The category names refer to the way in which the machine cuts off the excess of the pins once the binding is complete. The hot knife with cut them off then seal it with heat while the cold knife will snap the off or bend them to snap into place.
This type of binding can be used for a number of different things. Of course there are some things that should be done with a certain type of binding. A thesis and dissertation will often use hard cover binding as they need to be preserved. Smaller reports or things that do not need to be preserved for a long time can use the other types of binding.
Velobind is a form of binding that can be carried out by a print and copy shop or by an owner of a binding machine. This is very flexible and can be used for various types of reports or books.
